The Ultimate Medicine

We are all searching for an ultimate medicine. A unified theory which can apply to this world as a whole, Our life situations & the questions that we want an answer for. The whole of west is working on that. Once in a while a book like "The Atman Project" or "History of everything" comes & generates a bit of excitement & then the world returns to its normalcy(?).
In his vibrant fiction "The Devil & Miss Prym", Paulo Cuelho has raised a very valid question: Whether the human beings are essentially good or essentially evil? Though Paulo always gives his stories an astonishingly beautiful treatment & "The Devil ...." is no exception, yet, the question remains unanswred. Paulo himself has opined that this question is unanswerable.
However this question is quite answerable in my view. It only needs to be viewed from a different angle. Hence following three issues are being discussed in this post:
1. Whether there is any law governing everything in this world?
2. Whether humans are essentially good or evil?
3. What is the ultimate medicine, if any ?

The World: Before taking the world on its face value, there is a need to examine the reality of this phenomenon that we call world! Infact it is here that the catch lies. Our major premise is that there is a world. And for the enlightened ones this belief of ours amuses like anything. Where is the world except in your Mind? Please consider the possibility that before the world we are .... then happened the Mind & then happenend the world! It is for this reason that the Real "you" or real "me" will arise only when the Mind is over. Whatever we know today as "me" or "you" or ''they" or ten thosand things is but a creation of Mind.
The moment our Mind happenend, our "Sleep" begane. This is what is meant by the great parable from Genesis mentioning the fall of Adam from the garden of Eden. We must consider a possibility that we are sound asleep & dreaming. Everyones dream is different. It is for this reason that my explanation of the world doesn't apply to your situation or your understanding. Your dream is different & mine is different. Since eons philosophers are struggling with the question of this world & trying to understand why it is as it is. Yet nothing of promise has come up. How can you explain a dream ? A dream just 'is'.
That you also dream a building at a place 'x' that I do is simply because in my dream you exist & in yours I do along with all the other commonalities.

Humans: Humans are events. Humans are not individual beings or separate beings. They are only events rising & dessolving. Essentially, humans are neither good nor bad. No event in itself is either good or bad. It only has shades & colours.

The Ultimate Medicine: Beware! just saying or believing that the world is or is not doesn't settle anything. No truth can be ours unless we have realised it ourselves! However, we can always be more 'Aware' considering the possibility. India has paid a very heavy price by just believing & not doing anything about it. This defeated the very purpose of the message of the Buddhas. Instead of growing lifeward & exploring more, we have grown passive & life-negative. The ultimate medicine is to be into it with full 'Awareness' ; full 'Watching'. The dream can be broken only when you know that you are dreaming. All we have is this very world & this very life! one can begin only where one is & not where one should be.
Being into life with 100% involvement but 100% watchfulness too; is the way. Going into Nature & being "with it" is the way. Remember Ralph Waldo Emerson ? "If you go into Nature, all your problems will be solved."
Going within & being with that spark of 'pure awareness' is the way! More the awareness, less the questions !

God; Sex & I !

The most searched after words on the net are "God" & "Sex" !
But the most misunderstood or most ununderstood word in this world is "I".
What is "I" ?
This is the question where Psychology, Philosophy , Spirituality, Metaphysics -- all end without an answer. And when I say 'without an answer' .. you may be prompted to give one .... but check yourself if this answer is your own or it has come down to you from some other source? Many would say "I" is an illusion. Though this is the "Truth", yet it doesn't settle a single issue of my 'Being'.. When I say "I" is not there at all & it is only an illusion .... well only a temporary peace descends because if there is no "I" then there is no world at all & consequently no misery , no pain , no pleasure , nothing right , nothing wrong ...
Yet the world .. or so called illusion is very much there.. day in day out. The Fact is "I" have happenned. "The World" has happenned. However illusory it may be but it can't be undone. Therefore, the only meaningful pursuit in this life is to explore the meaning of "I". And, O'sage, let me say that the "I" is a real mysterious word because the moment you find it ..... it dessolves once & for all ..... and lo ..... there is only truth left .... the one without the other.. which is the only & true God.
If your "I" is hazy & not seen through ... the other great phenomenon comes into picture. its commonly called as 'Sex'. The origin of sexuality is in the "I". Strong "I" prompts strong sexual behaviour ... the weak "I" a weaker one. The wounded "I" results in sadism whereas the guilt ridden "I" to masochism. And mind you; it is not meant only in physical terms. When you go back on some commitment made with your partner ... it is sadism without any physical involvement. Or when you suddenly feel to withdraw at a crucial moment or have a strong surge of laziness before picking up an opportunity ... it is masochism at its best without any physical hurt at all.
Such are the vagaries of "I". The whole world of yours & whole life of yours is more or less intertwined with your "I". And "I" is an illusion. It is not the Truth. This is probably the only fallacy of human birth.
Now what is the way ? .....I suggest let us assess the position of our "I" first & then bring it to the mean point. The Golden Middle. If its weak let us make it strong... if its inflated .. let us humble it against the vastness of truth. O' Sage, one can settle with nothing in this world unless one has settled with one's "I". And the real step, the challange of the challanges (call it a 'Royal Challange' if you please) is when you have the comfortable 'I". Because once you have a comfortable "I", the need to look beyond ceases.
But I suggest not to stop here. Do look beyond! Vast territories of truth remain unexplored due to this catch. People just stop when they have the best opportunity.
The Real you is beyond "I". And "I" is the only tool you have to transcend itself.
Hence I suggest O' Sage! ... do not search what is God ... or what is the reality of Sex ....
Instead search ..what is "I" ?

आस्तिक और नास्तिक - २

तीसरे प्रकार के नास्तिक वो होते है जिन्हें जीवन में इतनी बार फरेब और निराशा हाथ लगती है, इस दुनिया का जिसे हम काला पक्ष कह सकते हैं , उससे इतनी बार सामना होता है कि भगवान को अफोर्ड करने की हिम्मत नहीं रह जाती।

लेकिन मैं तुमसे कहना चाहता हूँ की ईश्वर का प्रश्न एक "अ-प्रश्न " है क्योंकि जब तक समस्त मान्यताएं न छूट जाएं, जब तक सारे कांसप्ट्स , सारा तथाकथित ज्ञान जो बचपन से आज तक तुम्हें मिला है , न छूट जाए , जब तक तुम इस सम्पूर्ण ज्ञान के होते हुए भी उससे एकदम अछूते रहने में सक्षम न हो जाओ (एकदम छोटे बच्चे जैसे) तब तक आस्तिकता या नास्तिकता का विवाद सिवाय एक बौद्धिक विलास के अलावा कुछ नहीं है । वास्तव में तो एक अच्छा नास्तिक ही सच्चा आस्तिक है क्योंकि कम से कम वो ख़ुद की और जो दुनिया वो बनाता है उसकी जिम्मेदारी तो लेता है। वो उन आस्तिकों से तो हज़ार गुने बेहतर है जो जितने आस्तिक हैं नही उतना अपने आप को दिखाते हैं।

ईश्वर का प्रश्न "अ-प्रश्न" इसलिए है क्योंकि सत्य मान्यता रहित है। किसी भी मान्यता के अतंर्गत सत्य नहीं आ सकता। किसी भी मान्यता का होना ही उसके opposite पर निर्भर करता है। दिन का होना रात के होने पर निर्भर करता है । जीवन का होना मृत्यु पर निर्भर करता है। सत्य का होना असत्य पर निर्भर करेगा.... और ईश्वर का .... निशित ही शैतान पर। जैसे ही सत्य किसी भी मान्यता की जद में आएगा वो सत्य नहीं रह जायेगा , निरपेक्ष नहीं रह जायेगा॥ क्योंकि कहीं न कहीं उस मान्यता का opposite खड़ा हो जाएगा।

तो जो सब से पहले था जो किसी भी तरह के कांसेप्ट के पहले था वोही "ईश्वर" है। और यदि कहो की सब से पहले "कुछ नहीं " था तो "कुछ नहीं " ही ईश्वर हो जाएगा। फिर चाहे उसे अनंत कह लो , अनादी कह लो, अजन्मा कह लो, अखंड कह लो.... बल्कि सब से अच्छा तो है कि कुछ मत कहो और मौन रह जाओ । इसीलिए जब कोई बुद्ध से भी पूछता की ईश्वर क्या है तो वे एकदम मौन रह जाते .... कुछ कहा और गड़बड़ हुई,.....

आस्तिक और नास्तिक -1

जब बिटिया ने कल पूछा ,कि डेडी क्या वाकई भगवान् होते हैं ? तो मेरे पास कोई सीधा उत्तर नहीं था। वास्तव में किसी के पास भी नहीं है। हो सकता है शायद आपने भी जिंदगी में कभी न कभी यह प्रश्न किसी से पूछा हो ... क्या भगवान जैसी कोई चीज़ है ? what is God ? etc...
जैसा शायद मेरे बचपन में भी हुआ हो तो मैंने भी बेटी को सीधा जवाब न देकर उससे पूछा क्यों बेटा क्या हुआ ? ... जरा इस बात पर आप ध्यान देना॥ जब भी कोई छोटा बच्चा हमसे पूछता है कि क्या भगवन है ? तो हमारी पहली रीअक्शन होती है कि क्यों भाई क्या हुआ ... अर्थात परोक्ष रूप में ... क्या जरुरत पड़ गयी भगवान की ? निश्चित ही कोई समस्या आई होगी जो बच्चा भगवान की बात कर रहा है! हम सीधा उत्तर न देकर बच्चे के मन को पकड़ना चाहते हैं। और इससे भी बढ़कर सत्य बात है की वास्तव में शायद ही कोई हँसता खेलता बच्चा यह पूछता हो कि भगवान क्या होता है ? भगवान् की जरुरत १०० में से ९९ बार किसी दुखी बच्चे (और शायद बड़े को भी ) को होती है । मेरी बेटी ने भी जो बताया उसका सार यही था कि उसकी सहेली अपनी माँ की अपेक्षाओं से परेशान है।साथ ही ये भी कि उसका भाई तो हँसते खेलते अच्छे नम्बर ले आता है जबकि वो कोशिश कर कर भी अच्छे नम्बर नहीं ला पाती । जब चाहे जाने अनजाने comparison हो ही जाता है। कभी कभी उसका बहुत दूर कहीं जाने को मन करता है। इसी मन:स्थिति में उसने पूछा था कि क्या भगवान् होते हैं?
क्या आपने भी कभी ध्यान दिया कि जीवन के किस मोड़ पर आप आस्तिकता या नास्तिकता की ओर बढे ? आस्तिक जो कहता है कि ईश्वर है और नास्तिक जो कहता है कि नहीं है दोनों का ही ईश्वर से प्रथम परिचय अपने सामाजिक परिवेश में ही होता है। तीन प्रकार के लोग आस्तिक हो जाते हैं। पहले तो वे जो अपने घर परिवार से जो ग्रहण कर लेते है जीवन उन मान्यताओं के लिए कोई प्रबल चुनौती उत्पन्न नहीं करता । दुसरे वे जो 'अकस्मात् ही इस बुद्धि योग को प्राप्त हो जाते हैं' (श्री कृष्ण से साभार) । और तीसरे वे जो वास्तव में बहुत आस्तिक तो नहीं होते परतु इस पोसिशन से पंगा भी नहीं लेना चाहते। थोड़ा बहुत सिर झुकाने में क्या जाता है ... संसार भर कह रहा है तो शायद ईश्वर हो ही .... उनकी ये स्थिति होती है।
दूसरी ओर नास्तिकता के भी अपने प्रकार हैं। अक्सर जो प्रबल आत्मविश्वासी होते हैं और तर्क से चलते है वे नास्तिक पाए जाते हैं। दुसरे वे जो बचपन में ही rebelous प्रवृत्ति को प्राप्त हो जाते हैं और बाद में इसी को अपनी identity बना लेते हैं , उन्हें ईश्वर जैसी किसी चीज़ को स्वीकार करने में भी मुश्किल होती है । फ़िर न मानने में ... समाज में स्थापित मान्यताओं से अलग होने का सुख भी होता ही है। ..... आगे जारी है.....

नीत्शे कहता था !

नीत्शे बुध्ध को लेकर आक्रांत था। वो कहता था : कुछ लोग अपने अन्दर एक पशु जैसा पाले रहते हैं। वे अपने आप को उससे नुच्वाते रहते हैं और ख़ुद को लहूलुहान करवाते रहते हैं । जिन्दगी के तमाम फैसले फिर इसी पशु की उदर्पुर्ती के लिए होते हैं चाहे प्रकट तौर पर भले ही वे उसे आध्यात्मिक भूख जैसा कोई नाम दे दें। तुम इससे सावधान रहना !
एक मरे हुए आदमी को देख कर कह उठना की जीवन "असार" है , जरा सी बीमारी में सोच लेना कि जीवन "यातना" है ... तुम सावधान रहना ! इन मृत्यु के प्रचारकों को बहुत जल्दी सुनने वाले मिल जाते हैं, तुम जरा बचना।
नीत्शे कहता था कि 'ईशवर' का आविष्कार कमज़ोर मानसिकताओं ने किया है।
और मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ कि नीत्शे सही था। वाकई 'ईश्वर' जैसी अवधारणा मानव की कमज़ोर मानसिकता का प्रतिफलन ही है। चर्चिल को , लेनिन को, मार्क्स को या स्तालिन को भी ईश्वर कि जरुरत नहीं है।यह बिल्कुल सम्भव है की ईश्वर का अविष्कार कमजोरों ने ही किया हो। वास्तव में ऐसा ही होना चाहिए। लेकिन मूल प्रश्न ये नहीं है! ये बहस की ईशवर कमजोरों ने खोजा है या पाखंडियों ने, हमे एक और गहरे सवाल से divert करती है । और वो गहरा सवाल ये है की वे कौन से कारन हैं जिनकी वजह से कुछ मान सिक्तएं सुद्रद होती है जबकि कुछ कमजोर।
Why & how certain people succumb to the so called force of Evil, yet, certain others are there who are able to overcome those very evil tendencies.. (M.K. Gandhi is one of the known historical examples.)
यदि आप इसके लिए मनोविज्ञान की गहन खोजों में जाते हैं तो ऊपरी कारणों के उत्तर तो मिलते हैं और निश्चित ही मिलते हैं लेकिन अन्तिम प्रश्नों को लेकर फिर तमाम मनोवैज्ञानिक खोजें भी छोटी पड़ जाती हैं।
और उस अन्तिम प्रश्न का उत्तर ये है की जगत स्वचालित नियमों से बंधा हुआ है। सृष्टि एक परस्पराव्लाम्बित निकाय है। इसमें जो कहीं एक जगह होता है वो तुरंत ही कुछ दूसरी जगह निर्धारित कर देता है। कोई ईश्वर इस नियम में कोई फेरबदल नहीं कर सकता। और यदि इस नियम को एक पहलू से देखा जाए तो ये बहुत बड़ा वरदान है, यह बहुत सुद्रद न्याय है। और इसे ही अगर दूसरी तरह से देखें तो ये बहुत अन्यायपूर्ण मालूम पड़ता है जैसा की नीत्शे को लगा। इसलिए मैं आप से कहता हूँ की प्रश्न ईश्वर का नहीं है प्रश्न दृष्टि के निर्मल होने का है।
बुद्ध ने सिर्फ़ इतना ही नहीं कहा की "दुःख" है बल्कि ये भी कहा की "दुःख" का कारन है और उससे भी बढ़कर ये की उस कारन को दूर किया जा सकता है। ये अपने आप में ही एक आशा की किरण है। यह हमारे rational mind को आश्वस्त भी करता है। क्योंकि यदि बिना कारन ही , just as a matter of chance, someone has misery & others luxury, तो फिर इससे बढ़कर अन्यायपूर्ण और अतार्किक क्या होगा?
परन्तु संसार बिल्कुल न्यायपूर्ण है। थोड़े से धैर्य और थोडी सी खोज की भर जरुरत है। The pains that are yet to come , can be avoided ,, that is probably single most hope...

The path of quest

The Quest is only one though it has different forms. And let me say that the sleep is also one though it has different forms. Some are sleeping in the lap of luxury. The others.. in the lap of Misery. And the sleep of misery is even deeper, even graver.
O' Sage, why do you love misery?
Isn't it for the simple reason that the "Misery" makes you feel different? The luxury can still be taken away by something or someone but who can own your misery ? Just No-one or Nothing.
That is the sole reason for display of Misery. Just see how great hallaballoo is there! just watch how the competition is ripe as to whose misery is greater ? And that too when everyone, just about everyone has a tale or twoto tell!
O' Sage, Before moving on to the path of quest one must be ready to disown. Disown your miseries & dis own your joys too! They are there to be lived & disowned!
